ABOUT WILD

Who are we?

WILD – Watchdog for Intrusive Local Development – has been formed by residents of Albourne and Sayers Common in response to the proposal, included in the draft district plan, to build over 2,000 houses on land between the two villages, extending from the A23 as far as Trusler’s Hill Lane.

We’re a membership organisation and hope to sign up as many local people as possible, because there’s strength in numbers. Some of us were members of the LAMBS comittee and plan to carry on the good work started there.

Our Mission

We believe local people have a right to have their voices heard in response to schemes such as Sayers Village. So we have come together to create a group – and a website – which aims to tell local people what’s going on; cut through all the jargon which planners use, and speak for residents and with them in opposing schemes like this. Sayers Village may be our first campaign, but we think it’s important to keep an eye on everything developers and the council propose in our area, because they’ve shown they can’t be relied upon to look after our interests.

We’ve chosen our name carefully. We’re not opposed to building more houses in Mid Sussex – we need them, particularly houses which are in keeping with local villages, don’t change the character of the place where they’re built, and are within the budgets of local people, especially younger ones looking to buy a property for the first time. We strongly believe local people must be properly engaged and involved, and be able to challenge effectively, particularly when schemes which don’t meet these objectives  are put forward.

Area Covered

We represent the parish of Albourne and the Sayers Common portion of the Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Parish. We have selected an area we feel that we can support effectively. We wholeheartedly encourage other neighbouring areas to set up their own WILD (or similar) comittees that we can work along side.
